Clicker Training

We teach you to train your dog using positive methods. A clicker is a tool that, once the dog is conditioned to it, tells the dog it has done something exactly right so it speeds up your training as it bridges the communication gap between English and Dog!!  You do not have to use a clicker in our classes but we have yet to meet someone who didn't want to. Obviously, if you have a deaf dog another method it substituted!

The clicker is only used when teaching new behaviours so, no, you don't have to walk around forevermore with a clicker although most clicker handlers do in case their dog does something they like then they can "catch it" with the clicker. Once a behaviour is "on cue" the click is phased out.  It is important that you learn how and when to reinforce your dog so that the dog does not become reliant on food rewards.

Whether you just want a well behaved pet or to try dog sports such as heelwork to music, rally, agility, etc learning to clicker train will give you a thinking, working partner. For the show dog clicker is of great benefit in getting that show stance exactly right and the movement at the correct pace. For the gundog clicker will instil a greater precision in your dog's steadiness and retrieves.
